WELLINGTON, Juno 19. At the Supreme Court to-day Axel Edward William Lythberg, who pleaded guilty to theft of a mail bag, was admitted to probation for 12 months, and ordered to repay the money taken from the bag within a week. Afterwards, said the Judge, the costs might be repaid to the prosecution. Had prisoner been a postal clerk he could not have obtained probation, and there was not very much difference in his being a railway official; however-, he thought prisoner’s previous character was good, and probation would be granted. WELLINGTON, June 21. In the Supreme Court to-day, Leo Stephen Curtis, formerly clerk to the Ohakune Borough Council, was admitted to probation for two years and orders made that his property be assigned to the Public Trustee for the relief of his creditors, after sufficient has been retained to pay his passage to Egypt, where, if he is found medically fit, he will rejoin the forces. Accused was brought back from Egypt to answer six charges of theft. NELSON, June 18. At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice Chapman, James Francis Eogan was charged on three counts with indecently assaulting boys at the« Stoke Training Farm, where he had been an attendant. He was found guilty on one count, and was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. TIMARU, June 18. His Honor Mr Justice Sim has fixed the fourth trial of Robert Guthrie for' alleged sheep-stealing for August 30. Two other charges are pending.
