AUCKLAND TOPICS.

(Fboh Oub Own Cobsespondent ! June 14

With the Great Northern meeting over Ellcrslie is now very quiet, and a largo number of horses which have been well tried during the season are now enjoying a spoil. However, there are still many horses being kept going with a view to seeing the season right out, particularly the jumping horses. The Gisborne meeting will attract a big team from this end as usual. Amongst those nominated there is nothing of special class, and it does not look as though many prizes will come this way. Golden Glow is to bo taken down for the Gisborne Steeplechase, and his running there will settle whether he goes on to Wellington and Canterbury. LI Gallo has a “leg,” and has been given only walking exercise since ho brought off the winning double. All going well he is to be taken south for the National, in which such an out-and-out stayer must bo extremely hard to beat. Colonel Soult has been nominated for events at Rand wick, but it has not yet been decided whether he will make the trip. The son of Soult is not too sound ; therefore the chances are he will be kept m New healanci. That useful horse Nicomar has changed hands, having been purchased by a local medico at suogs. A typical jumper, and having been hunted before being raced on the flat, no difficulty should be experienced in getting an early return with the son of Spalpeen. There were two royal chances of getting bargains in connection with the northern meeting. A week previously Loloma was for sale at lOOgs, and as she won three races at the meeting her owner must bo shaking hands with himself that ho did not find a buyer. Harbour Light, who also wou throe races at the meeting, was for sale at 300 gs the day before ho won the Campbell Hurdles. Nimblcfoot and Dogger bank arc to be sent south for the jumping meetings, but why, no one except the owner knows, as there appears little chance of them earning exes. The Auckland horseman, A. J. M‘Flynn, left for Australia to ride Tim Doolan ; nd The Pole over fences in their engagements. Blucstone will be taken to Trentham next month. At certain times there is no better proposition for backers than this gelding. He is a sure winner all going well. tt ICING,I.\ ! NEW ZEALAND. ASHBURTON TROTTING CLUB’S MEETING. FRESH RECORD AT ELLERSLIE. With the holding of the Groat Northern meeting at Ellerslie, the Auckland Racing Club brought the present racing season to a close so far as that body is concerned (says the New Zealand Herald). A fairly wide prediction was offered at the early stage of the racing year that consequent on the war the totalisator investments would show a large shrinkage. The opposite has proved the case in Auckland. During the season the Auckland Racing Club pro-

moted 11 days’ racing at Ellerslio, which ombracod 85 races, and the sum invested on the totalisator in connection therewith ran into £527,799 10s, which represents an increase of £32.328 compared with the amount handled last year. The figures for the respective periods arc as follow; 1913-14. 1914-15. Spring meeting ... £ £ 59,745 g Summer meeting... 225.410 244.614 Autumn meeting... 86,882 95,370 Winter, meeting ... 122,657 128,070 Totals ... £495,471i £527,799^OTAGO HUNT CLUB. RUN AT WING A TUI. The conditions prevailing on Saturday were scarcely what could have been desired for hunting, but the heavy downpour of rain did not prevent a largo number of followers from taking part in the meet arranged at Mr.J. Imno’s homestead at Wungatui. The ground was very soft as the result of the weather, but the horsemen wore, generally speaking, fortunate in getting round the course laid out without mishap. There were two or three spills, one of which proved serious. The throw off took place in a paddock adjoining Mr Imrio's homestead, the hounds picking up the Trail in a ploughed paddock. They then struck off in a northerly direction over a number of stout rail fences and gorse hedg.-s. The pace was fairly fast, and after going about two miles and a-half the hounds doubled back and ran to the point from which the ran started. A chock was held here, and then the hounds cast off over several properties lying in the direction of Mosgiel, and after negotiating a number of hedges, the huntsmen finished on the road. Those who took part in the run then repaired to Mathcson’s Hotel, where they were entertained at afternoon tea by Miss Mathoson. Mr Jordan, in suitable terms, returned thanks to the hostess for her kindness in entertaining members of the Hunt, and, at his request, hearty cheers were given for Mr and Miss Mathoson. Among those who followed wore: Miss Mouatt. on Sleaview; Mr J. A. Jordan (master), on Ngatiri; Mr J. Olsen, on Royal Medal; Mr H. Swallow, on Gipsy Queen; Mr W. Weir, on Tkawai; Mr W. Easton, on The Brewer; Mr E. Gardner, on Northern; Mr R. Buddicomho, on Don Ruby); Mr J. Stenton, on Taft; Mr IT. Anderson, on Rose Dove; Mr E. Euddicombe. on Glenlui; Mr C. M'Dougall, on Heroic; Mr J. Gow, on Wairongoa; Mr J. Andrews, on Pat; Mrs Kudson. on Euchre; Mr J. Harty, on Don; Mr E. J. Doherty, on Surprise; Mr A. Cassels. on Kiwi; and Mr J. North, on Bright Ada. The Hunt has been notified by the secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference that the names of all horses which have been qualified with a view to racing will have to be registered bv their owners forthwith, and as this should be done as early as possible owners should not overlook it'
