The New South Wales Labour Council negatived a motion in favour of a referendum on the question of closing the hotels at 6 p.m. by 61 votes to 31. The chief argument against the change was the throwing idle of many employees in the trade. The council favoured a referendum on the question of nationalising the drink traffic. ' - MELBOURNE, June 4. The Federal Government -will shortly take over the liquor traffic in the Northern Territory. The hotels there are licensed from month to month, and so can be taken over, with compensation, at any time.
