The Premiers’ Conference resolved in favour of uniform light and harbour dues, co-operation in the direction of national insurance against unemployment, and the appointment of a Royal Commission to report on the treatment of refractory ores. Considerable amusement was raised over what was described as a “hardy annual ’ —the daylight-saving scheme. Mr Earle (Tasmania) suggested that an electrical system would be better; but Mr Holman thought the suggestion excellent, though the public were not quite ready for it. ’the conference reaffirmed a resolution recommending daylight saving to the serious attention of the States.
