BATTLE AT LODZ.

GERMAN OFFENSIVE BROKEN. PETROGRAD, November 26. Tire military authorities have deprecated the publication of an incomplete account of the Yistula-Warta fighting. It is believed in military circles that two German army corps broke through a section of the Russian defence, but a Rus* siau comiter-rush drove them southward, and they were practically surrounded on Monday between Lodz and Lowicz. There is now no doubt that the German offensive has been broken. The Russians are bringing up fresh troops to meet each German assault. When the Germans gave way the Russian cavalry did terrible execution, capturing several guns. General Hindenburg’s position is weak. He is isolated from the Grown Prince, who is commanding further south towards Czenstochowa, The failure of the German turning movement in the direction of Wielun was due to the Russian Grenadiers, who made prisoners of 5000 Germans, and captured stores and several machine guns. The trophies captured at Czenstochowa include the Kaiser’s carriage, with hif blue cloak within it. EXTRICATING AN ENDANGERED CORPS. PETROGRAD, November 27. Official: The Lodz battle continues to develop. The Russians have secured an advantage, and German efforts are directed to extricating the corps which had penetrated to Breziny and is now retreating to the Strykon region, north of Lodz, under very favourable conditions. The Russians captured 8000 Austrians on tiie 25th inst., including two • complete regiments.
