IN NEW GUINEA

MELBOURNE, November 20. The Administrator of Papua reports a serious conflict between a patrol and a party of natives, resulting in seven natives being killed. While en route to investigate some murders in the Cokila district, Mr Chinnery, Assistant Resident Magistrate, with a force of native police, collided with a hostile tribe in the Rigo district. The natives opposed Mr Chinnery’s entrance, stockaded their village, and threw spears. The police fired two volleys and drove out the natives. Mr Chinnery was informed that six out of the seven natives killed had participated in the Cokila massacres.
