WANGANUI, November 19. Tlio Wanganui Agricultural Society’s annual show commenced to-day jn beautiful weather. The show, taken altogether, ia an excellent one, though the strike and other disturbances have interfered with the number of entries, particularly in regard to those which were expected from the South Island and from Auckland. The following championship., wore awarded:—Hereford heifer, K. Short; Shorthorn bull, ,T. A. Turner; Holstein bull, W. Lovelock; Polled Angus bull and cow, Fred. Moore; Jersey bull, Mrs F. M. Nixon ; Lincoln nun and owe and lamb, Mrs J. D. Ormond; Romney ram and ewe, A. Tanner. November 20. The Wanganui Show was concluded to-
day in beautiful -weather. There was a very large attendance. . The championship for the nack mass was -won by E. Short's Scout, and the championship in the harness class by J. rietleraon’a Emerald Isle. ~ The competitions resulted as follows. Leaping (steeplechase style) -H- • Brewer’s Utility 1, W. H. Tlio wheat market is firm. Australian shows an advance of fully 3d and Russian and La Plata is 6d higher. An Australian cargo was sold at 35s 6d and another at 3bs 3d. Five thousand two hundred tone of West Australian January shipment was sold at 35s Ojd, and 35s 4£d was offered for 7000 tons December shipment, after 33s had been refused on Saturday. November 10. Five thousand two hundred tons of Wostralian, January shipment, resold at 35s 3d ; seven thousand tons of South Australian, Victorian, Whstralian, Decom-ber-January shipments sold at 35s 3d. Iho American visible supply is 117,001,000 bushels. November 19. At the tallow sales 803 casks were offered and 538 sold. Mutton, fine 37s 3d, medium 34s 6d; beef, fine, 37s 9d, medium, 345. November 20. The Bank of England stock of gold coin is £35,295,000, the reserve £26,868,000; proportion of reserve to liability, 54.97; notes in circulation, £28,403,000; public deposits, £10,611,000; other deposits, £38,248,000; Government securities, £11,785,090; other securities, £27,987,000. The bank rate of discount is 5 per cent. Short loans are discounted at 4J per cent., and three months’ bills as follow : London, 5 per cent.; Paris, 3| per cent.; Berlin, 4g- per cent. Consols and Government stocks are unchanged. The Bradford wool market is steady, with slightly firmer tendency. The butter market is slightly easier. Danish is unchanged. Choicest Australian salted, 118 s to 120 s; exceptionally choice, 1225; unsalted, 116 s to 118 s, a few realising 120 s; New Zealand, 122 s to 1245; exceptionally choice, 120 s; Argentine, 116 s to 120 s. The cheese market is steady. New Zealand, 64s to 655; Weltshirc, Queensland, excellent quality and condition, 63s to 645. The wheat market is firm. There arc variable reports with regard to the Argentine crop, but there is little doubt that it ■will be below the average. The drought in India is becoming serious, and cargoes are firm, sellers asking 3d in advance; 36s is asked for most cargoes, but buyers are slow to follow the advance. Six thousand eight hundred tons of Victorian January shipment sold at 35s 6d, and another cargo at 365. Australian spot limited (nominally), 37s 6d to 38s. New Zealand wheat is exhausted. The flour market is quiet. Parcels of patents nearly due have been sold at 24s 7jd to 24s 9d, c.i.f. The oats market is slow and unchanged. Beans are firm. New Zealand, ex store, 375. Peas are slow. First Maples, 445. November 22. Antimony, 2s 9d to 2s 10jd per unit. Galvanised iron, £ls 15s and £l3 15s. Tin plates, 12s 10£d and 13s lOad. Fencing wire. £6 17s 6d. Iron bars, £B. Copra: For South- Sea there is a good demand. In bags, £3O 10s; in bulk. £3O 15s for October-Novcmber shipment. Cotton: Novembcr-Deccmbor shipment, 6.97 d. The hemp market is firm ;_high point fair. Novembcr-January shipment, £26 10s. Rubber: Para, 3s IJd; plantation, 2s 4d; smoked, 2s 6d. At the kauri gum sales 161 cases were offered, and eight were sold. Junc-Dc-oember sliipment, £34 15s. November 23. Wheat: Prices are fully maintained. There is a fair inquiry for Australian cargoes, but the general demand is quite. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,655,000 quarters, and for the Continent 2,350,000 quarters. The Atlantic shipments were 594,000 quarters, and the Pacific 15,000 quarters. Totals: Europe, 1,720,000 quarters; Australasian, 23,000 quarters. Rabbits; Very dull.
