THE PORTUGAL REVOLT

LISBON, November 13.

The recent rising was really frustrated by the work of a spy named Lancastre, a cycle agent at Oporto. Ho ingratiated himself with the Royalists, until he was regarded as their most valuable agent. Lancastre, in connivance with the Oporto police, was even allowed to effect the escape of one Royalist prisoner. He helped to smuggle arms into Portugal, conveyed the Royalists’ correspondence abroad, and c"ected the secret entry of their leaders, including Counts Inho and Manqualde, into Portugal. Lancastre kept the Government fully aware of every Royalist action.
