There were 147 patients in the Hospital at the close of last week. During- the week 44 were admitted and 43 were discharged, while two deaths occurred—those of Emily Brady and Mary MtFarlane—the number remaining in the institution at the close of the week being 145. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that at the Supreme Court on the 3rd the grand jury handed a statement to Mr Justice Chapman, drawing his Honor’s attention to the fact that a true bill had been found against a mpn charged with having committed a serious offence against a young girl. They wore unanimously of the opinion that persons found guilty of offences of this nature against girls under the ago of consent should be dealt with very severely, and made the subject of corporal punishment. His Honor said he could not express an opinion now, as the man was on trial, but he would keep the address before him.
