LONDON, October 22. General Sir Beauchamp Duff has been appointed Commander-in-Chief in India. It is understood that General Sir lan Hamilton refused the appointment, desiring to visit Australia and New Zealand. General Sir Beauchamp Duff is the second eon of the late Garden William Duff, of Hatton Castle, Aberdeenshire. He passed through the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and received a commission as lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in Ho served in the Afghan war of 1878-80. and was transferred to the Indian Staff Coip in 1881.
