THE BRESLAU SCANDAL

BERLIN, October 22. Eight mer concerned m the Breslau scandal have been sentenced to terms ot imprisonment varying from six months to three years. Two were acquitted. An extraordinary scandal, which caused consternation at Breslau, was reported last month. Over 30 persons were arrested on charges of immorality and inveigling 72 young schoolgirls at various times into a house kept by Augusta Strausse. > An army Officer, a police official, an architect, and four tradesmen, fearing arrest, committed suicide. A shocking feature of the scandal was the allegation that the parents in several instances were aware of, and oven connived at, their daughters’ ruin. The majority of the prisoners were men of position and wealth. It was stated that the police officer who committed suicide was specially entrusted with the work of detecting offences under the white slave traffic.
