VICTORIA’S DRINK BILL
MELBOURNE, April 22. According to figures supplied by Afjp John Vale, Victoria’s drinking bill in 1913 totalled £5,151,215, or £3 16s Id per head of population, which is 2s 6d per head higher than the figures for 1911 and the highest since 1901. Mr Vale attributes the increase to th« general prosperity and long hours which publicans are allowed to keep open a» compared with the hours observed by other trades.
