EXTENT OF THE INUNDATION. GORE, April 28. At seven minutes past five p.m. to-day the electric light was turned on after an absence of over four weeks, due to the damage to the generators at M-ataura by the flood. Continuous work was necessary to do this, and much credit is due to the staff at Mataura and the local borough electrical engineer and staff. The Ensign has compiled a list of the houses, business premises, and factories that were inundated on March 29. it shows that 405 private dwellings, ui business premises, churches., etc. ’ w j®T e affected out of approximately 700 habitable buildings in the borough.
