SCHOOL CONCERT AT HIGHCLIFF.

A very successful school concert was held in the iiighcliff School Hall on Thursday to raise funds to meet the expenses of the recently erected stable. Mr If air bairn presided. The programme was of a varied nature, and almost every item was encored, a ready response being given on each occasion. Messrs Hellyer, Robertson, Benfell, Arnott, and Raynbird gave comic items, which were warmly appreciated, and the lady singers—Mrs C. Samson, Miss A. Inglis, and Miss Riddell —deserve special notice, each item being tastefully rendered. Miss Byrne contributed two much appreciated violin solos. Messrs Henderson, Mathieson, Stuart (2), Challis, and Rutherford gave a farce, and Master C. MTCenzio a dance. The accoinpanistcs for the evening were Misses Johnston, F. Mathioson, Riddell, and Byrne (piano), and Mr N. Oowie (bagpipes). After supper a danco was held, the music being supplied by Messrs Rutherford brothers, assisted by Messrs Henderson and Cowic. Mr R. Black made an efficient M.C. Mr Fairbairn presented Master Colin Weir with a serviceable trophy, which ho had won at the recent school sports held in Dunedin. During the day a buttonhole competition was held for the school children, the result being: Girls —Margery Jury, Nellie M'Meeking. Katie R run ton ; boys—James Baxter, William Prvdc.
