' still a fair number of transactions have been I registered in grain. The advance in the j price of wheat reported last week has been I well maintained, and there has been no | abatement in the demand. At the opening of the week some purchases were made at 3s 6d net at country stations, these including a. line of 800* sacks of velvet and a mixed line of 600 sacks of velvet and Tuscan. Subsequently 3s 6jd net at country j stations was conceded for a number of ! line*, both mixed and velvet straight, and : ! that was tho price at which the market j I closed. j j Oats have not boon offering freely, and i values have been well maintained. Good feed and B grade Oartons were sold at Is lid net at country stations, but for a. lino of 1000 sacks j,d more was concede;!. A line, of A grade. Oartons was obtained at a distant station at Is HJ,d net, but for other lines, with shorter railage, 2s not was fciaid. There hn.s not been very much doing in

potatoes, bill prices show no decline, the business clone being at £3 2s 6d and £3 5s net at country stations, and £3 5s net delivered in Oamaru. The opinion is held that when deliveries becone more perioral values will recede unless a greater demand is experienced for coastwise shipment, business i:i that direction being vet comnarativcly small, SOUTHLA N D MARK ETS. (FEOil Oni Own COBRESPONDEXT.) INVERCARGILL, April 7. A few odd lilies of new season's cats have. been offered during- the week, and have found purchasers at from Is Hid to 2s on trucks for A grade Gartons. This works out at from 2g 4d to 2s 4id. f.0.b., sacks in. No doubt these are required for some special purpose, as the best that can be obtained for shipment today is 2s 3Ad lo 2s A<\ for A grade Gartons, and id less for B grade Gartons or A grade sparrow-

bills. It is not, expected that many new oats will be offering for a week or a fortnight yet. So far all the samples of now season's grain have been in good condition, and would easily go A grade. It is difficult to say how the later harvested oats will turn out as regards quality, but from all accounts the yield is going to be heavy. A good many farmers estimate that they will thresh anything from 40 to 60 bushels to the acre. A fair quantity of ryegrass is offering, but the bulk is out of condition and not in a fit state for merchants to dress. In the meantime any lines of bright well-condi-tioned seed offering are fetching from 2s to 2s 2d on trucks. A fair quantity of new chaff is on offer, and from £3 2s' 6d to £3 5s has been paid. Very little old chaff is offering. It i s worth 'about 10s per ton over the above quoted prices. DUNEDIN MARKETS. WHOLESALE PRODUCE REPOBTS.
