The offence is said to have taken placein connection with the Wanganui race*. It is alleged that the employees (ok» is 21 and the other 16) adopted a system of manipulating wires. As soon as the result of a race came through they would send a wire to a bookmaker instructing him to pat money on the winning horse, timing the wire an hour or so earlier. The scheme, however, did not work. The police were informed, and Detective Siddels pursued the matter, with the result, that informations have been laid.
