D.I.C. PICNIC.
The D.I.C. annual picnic was held on. , Saturday, when over 200 employees had a j most enjoyable day’s outing. Their destination was the Taieri Mouth, and four ! carriages were reserved for them on the 9.5 train. At Henley they embarked cn two I of Mr M‘Kc-gg’s launches, and the trip ' down til" Taieri River was greatly appreciated, the lino scenery appealing to everyI one. A programme of laces had been arranged, and tihe entries for those were numerous. The handioappers had done their work well, and the finishes were very exciting. Idle following are the results; — Girls’ Race (under 18) —Miss Egglestone I, Miss Blackie 2, Miss Holgate 3. Apprentices’ Race-—Broenan 1, Brown 2, Spiro 3. Hobble Skirt Race for Men —Mr Sharp 1 Mr Rondel 2, Mr Boys 3. Ladies’ Race (over IS) —Miss Mackie 1, Miss Kennedy 2. Miss Cockerell 3. D.I.C. Handicap (2CO yards)—Mr Deuchraas 1, Mr Sharp 2, M.r Edwards 3. Maxried Indies’ Race — Mrs Matthews 1. Mrs Ba.ird 2. Horso Race—Mr Rendel 1, Mr Sharp 2, Mr Hook 3. Couples Race—Miss Edwards and Mr j Deuchrass 1, Mies Kennedy and Mr Fancourt 2, Miss Mackie and Mr Taylor 3. Married Men’s Race—Mr Lindley I, Mr Hook 2, Mr Astill 3. Two special iaces for ladies under 20, and over, from Miss I awronoe’s room, and for prizes presented by Mies Lawrence, resulted as follows; —• Ladies under 20—Mias Grant 1, Miss ; Whelan 2. Ladies over 20—Miss Chambers 1, Miss Kcnnard 2. The Surprise Race for Ladies caused much amusement, and the fun waxed fast and furious as the parcels containing the surprise prizes were opened. ’Jlijie Men’s Hobble Skirt was a great success. and the course was dotted with the fallen once. | The catering was in the hands of Mrs Mitchell, who earned out her duties in l an excellent manner. Miss Crow p;esented tne prizes on the launch just before the return journey was commenc'd. Tho manage,r (Mr George Crow) cent a teloj gram wishing the picnickers a happy time. ' Fortunately, the weather remained good throughout, and the party reached town at 8 o’clock, after a meet enjoyable picnic.
