The visitors were entertained at a smoke concert on Saturday evening in the Waratah Tea Room, the gathering being presided over by Mr C. Russell-Smith. A lengthy toast list, interspersed with songs by leading local vocalists, was honoured. In proposing the toast “ The Auckland Provincial Bowling Association,” Mr C. J. Payne siad it would probably bo the lust time' they would have an opportunity of honouring this toast, as indications pointed to tne fact that thig association would bo amalgamated with a Dominion Bowling Association. —(Applause.) There was not the slightest doubt about the amalgamation eventuating, and whether the bowling people in Dunedin would fall into lino wa« not a question to be discussed or debated at that gathering. Mr Payne said he knew how well the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association could treat visitors, as ho had had the pleasure of taking a rink to Auekand some seven or eight years ago. In responding to the toast, Mr A. M. Brydone said that five years ago the Auckland Association had 14 clubs with a membership of about 800 players affiliated with it, but at the present time they had 35 clubs with a membership of 2000.—(Applause.) Even if amalgamation was not brought about, ho had hoard there was a chance that Aucklanders would have the pleasure of entertaining Dunedin bowlers, as one team at least would “ come along ” and try to wrest the medals from the Aucklanders. Ho had to say, on behalf of the ladies touring with the party, that thev were charmed with the reception and with the very great kindness that had been shown to them since thev arrived in Dunedin. - (Applause.) Mr M‘Watters proposed the Health of the New Zealand Bowling Association.” Mr Short responded, and in doing so referred to the question of amalgamation, lie said the members on the council owed their position on tint board to different centres, including those in the South Island, lie was in favour of leaving matters as they were. Thev had got on so well that it was a question of letting well alone. The amalgamation question required a lot of consideration. and should be gone into thoroughly before any decision was come to If it was the general desire that they should amalgamate, he did not see how Dunedin could very well stand out. He wa a inclined to wonder whether the visit of their Auckland friends had nob, among other things, the object of 'cementing matters in favour of a Dominion association and if so. he could toll them that, they hud nlayed their cards very well indeed.— (Applause.) Mr Balk in a humorous speech, proposed the health’of the visitors. He urged that the question, of amabramaticn should bo gone into on broad lines. Mr Rankin responded on behalf of the visitors, thanking the Dunedin bowler* for th<> hospitable manner in which they had , I>eeu treated.
