DUNEDIN WOOL SALES

KEEN COMPETITION AND ADVANCE IN PRICES. The second wool sale of the season was held in the Art Gallery, Dunedin, on the 23rd inst. There was a good attendance of buyers and the Continental section competed keenly. The catalogues submitted by the seven firms of selling brokers aggregated 21,302 bales, and comprised in them wore som? of the finest Wools in Otago, which arc this year in particularly good condition. The top line-3 were particularly well grown | and sound in the staple, and owing to the wet season wore in exceptionally light condition. They mot with the keenest of competition, and an exceedingly strong sale resulted, the tendency of prices being to show an advance on the rates ruling at the last sale in December. For fleece wool of all descriptions the market is appreciably firmer, and this applies particularly to the finer wools, those suitable for America certainly showing an advance (in some cases of up to id lb) on December’s values. The high price of lb was realised fairly early in the sale for a ninebale lot of merino wool, this being at the time of side the top price obtained this season in the Dominion. It \va s no Uncommon tiling for halfbred wool, and oven for crossbred wool, to exceed or reach Is. Pieces and locks also found exceedingly good sale, and, generally speaking, they participated in the rise. As the sale was not concluded when wo had to go to press it is impossible to give a detailed comparison of prices.
