CIVIL’ WAR IN ECUADOR

A SANGUINARY CONFLICT,

NEW YORK, January 20.

Civil war has broken out in the Republic of Ecuador. A fierce battle was fought in the suburbs of Quito between the city and the provincial troops, the latter being defeated. One thousand of the fighters were killed or wounded. WASHINGTON, January 20.

The American Consul at Guayaquil announces that a battle was fought and 1000 killed. The rebellion has now ended. GUAYAQUIL, January 21.

There has been .all-night fighting in the streets. A section of General Alfaron’s troops defeated General Plaza, a supporter of the Quito Government. The losses on both sides were severe. The inhabitants are in a state of panic, fearing that Andrade will attack the city.
