HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The regular meeting of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, held on tho 3 lth, was attended by Messrs J. HWalker (chairman), W. Wilkinson, S. S. Myers, A, Tapper, W. T. Talboys, J. J. Clark, 11. M. Ewing, W. Blackie, W. E. S. Knight, and R. Templeton. Apologies for absence were reocuved from Messrs Cumming. Driver, Larnach, and Hamel. Tho Cook (GtMrborne), Wairarapa, and Grey District Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards wrote expressing approval of a resolution passed by tho Otago Board to the effect that it was imperative that Government should place such a sum on the Estimates and make such regulations as would enable hospital boards in the Dominion to stamp out tuberculosis. — Noted. Miss Ro.se Macdonald, who has been appointed matron of the Napier Hospital, wrote resigning her position as matron of the Forth" Street Maternity Home.—The Chairman, in moving that the resignation be accepted, referred to the fact that they were losina an extremely valuable servant, and lie thought they should record their appreciation of Mips MacdonaJd's services in the minutes.—Resignation accepted and appreciation recorded. Mr Talboyt l , in moving the adoption of the Benevolent Committee's report, expressed indebtedness for the kindness of people who ha<l sent presents for tho inmates of the institution at Christmas time. -The report, which has been published, was adopted. Mr E'.ving having moved the adoption of " the Sanatorium Committee's report, Mr Tapper expressed the opinion that tho salary offered to applicants for the portion of medical officer at the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium (£400) was inadequate.—The report was adopted, the Chairman remarking that the subject of the salary should have been commented upon at. an earlier stage. He stated that approval of the arrangements connected with the sanatorium had been expressed by a medical gentleman who had visited the place. The Finance and Hospital Committee's reports, which have both been published, were adopted, and the board went into committee Ho consider tenders for the erection of a fence at the Frederick street frontage of the Dunedin Hospital. OTAGO DISTRICT. The following are the statistics for tha year ended December 31, 1911, of institutions under tho control of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board : Dunedin Hospital.—Remaining from the previous year, 136; number of patients admitted during the year, 1979; total number of patients, 2115; patients discharged during the year, 1871; deaths, 143; patient* remaining, 101.
Fever Hospital.—Remaining from the previous year, 6; admitted during the year, 56; discharged. 50; deaths, nil; remaining, 12. Maternity Hospital.—Remaining from the previous year, 4-; admitted during the year, 171; discharged, 170; deaths, nil; remaining, 5. Port Chalmers Hospital.—Remaining from the previous year, nil; admitted during the year, 9; discharged, 7; deaths, 2| remaining, nil. Kuibarigata Hospital.—Remaining from the previous year, nil; admitted during tho year, 18; discharged, 17; death, 1; remaining, nil. Tuapeka Hospital.—Remaining from the previous year, 8; admitted during the year, 83; discharged, 85; deaths, 5; remaining, L Palmerston Sanatorium. Remaining from the previous year, 23; admitted during the year, 58; discharged, 50; deaths, 2; remaining. 29. Benevolent Institution.—Number of inmates from tho previous year, 198; admitted during the year. 140; inmates for the year, 338; discharged during tho year, 125; deaths, 36; number remaining, 177.
