NEW YEAR'S HONOURS
! LONDON, January 1. In connection -with the New Year's honours, the King's Medal has been awarded to 65 people, whereof 29 are from the overseas dominions, including a number of Australians. I January 2. The Honorary Grand Crose has been conferred on General Nogi, of the Japanese Army Council. AMENDED LIST. WELLINGTON, January 5. Colonel Robin has been made a Com- : panion of St. Michael and St. George, not commander, which would carry knighthood with it. A press cablegram conveying this information was sent on Monday, but appears to have been lost in transmission, the Auckland Star alone receiving it. The following ie the complete list aa published in the Auckland papers : Raised to Peerage. Sir Thos. Gibson-Oprmichael, K.C.M.G., ex-Governor of Victoria, has been raised to the Peerage. The honours list includes three Peers. One of them is Sir Alfred Thomas, who was Liberal member for Glamorganshire East in the last Parliament. Privy Councillor. Mr R. L. Borden, Prime Minister of Canada, has been appointed a member of his Majesty's Privy Council. Baronets. Ten Baronets are created. They include : Mr Sigismund Neumann, partner of Neumann, Lubeck, and Co., bankers. Mr Ralli, of Ralli Bros. Mr Lionel Phillips, partner in the London and African firm of Wernher, Beit, and Co. Order of the Bath. Sir Chas. Lucas, head of the Dominions Department of the Colonial Office, becomes Knight Commander of the Bath. St. Michael and St. George. Sir E. A. Stone, Chief Justice and Lieutenant-governor of West Australia, has been made Knight Commander of St. Michael and St. George. The following have been appointed companions of the game order : Mr Diddams, Mayor of Brisbane. Mr T. Fitzpatrick, Victorian Railway Commissioner. Mr A. Bean, Tasmanian Minister for Mines. Lieutenant-colonel Robin, Adjutantgeneral for New Zealand. Knight Bachelor. The honour of Knight Bachelor has been conferred on : Dr C. K. Mackellar, a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 1885, and prominently connected with the administration of State relief to children and with medical and sanitary matters. Mr Chas. Hy. Goode, the oldest rner chy,nt in Adelaide, who is prominently connected with many philanthropic institutions and religious bodies. There are 34 knights, including : Mr Rider Haggard, the author. Mr Frederick Wedmore, author. Professor Henry Jones. Mr Joseph Beecham. Royal Victorian Order.
Mr Bertram M'Kennal, the Australian sculptor, is made a member of the Royal Vlictoriian Order. " Honourable " for Judges.
The title "honourable" has been granted to judges of the High Court of Australia, and of the Supreme Courts of the Australian States, New Zealand, South Africa, and Newfoundland. Sir James Prendergast, ex-Chief Justice of New Zealand, will be allowed to bear the title.
