EX-M.P'S WILL.
SOME CURIOUS PROVISIONS. V (From Oca OWX ConHESPONDBNT.) LONDON, November 18.
Now Zealand is one of tbe places m •which tho trustees of the late 'Colonel Baudye have power to invest the residuary estate in the purchase of land. Colonel Bandye died' on October 18; aged 74. His estate has 'been proved at three-quarters of a million sterling, and the will contains a number of curious provisions. It will bo recollected that only a (short time ago Colonel Sandyg retired from tho parliamentary representation of Bootle to mala© way, for Mr Bonar law. . Among the directions contained in til© will is one that a largo green despatch box, containing a sheet inscribed “ Myles,” inside the lid, (should be opened by h:a executors and tho contents destroyed without ■being read by them or any oilier persons. Ho directed that after his death a surgeon, “if possible, of eminence,” was to open the medic cephalic artery of his left arm (such incision not to bo made earlier than throe and a-half days from th& hour of supposed death), and to deliver a report that ho had done (so, and hod made a close examination for (ugr.s of commencing putrefaction, and had or had not found them. If they wore mot found, his coffin wa* not to bo closed) until distinct signs of commencing putrefaction had been discovered in the region of tho heart, and after discovering this the (-surgeon was to report to tho executors, andl receive a sum not exceeding ton guineas and all his expense* for his trouble. A GRUESOME ANNIVERSARY. It was his earnest dcsiro and deli be rat© resolution that no person being or becoming a Romanist, or marrying a Romanist, should (niececd to tho Graythwaite Hall Estate. Ho therefore entreated all persons who might become entitled to the estates of the 'ancient family of Sa.ryJya to uso their best endeavour to ensure that tho uro\ .(iions of tho will might be carried out, (jo that in tho future the family of Sandyo, and especially tho owners of the estates, might bo free from the evil results which inevitably attended and followed upon tho spirit of Romanism and Romani Catholic doctrine wheresoever tho same was manifested. In ord. i that his wishes might bo bettor known, he requested that that portion of his will might be read in family conclav© at Graythwaite Hall onoe a year, on th© anniversary of the day of his deceive. Ha trusted that anyone succeeding thereto after tho hitherto long and ancient descent in the male lino of his family would do hi« Utmost to keep all the together, as well as to add' to and improve them, and to avoid betting, gambling, horse racing, and card playing, “ and in all reapxjcts to bo or become a godly and upright man, and to do in all things honour to the old family name.” Tho estates ar© Left in trust for the oldest gon of his late cousin on attaining tho ago of 25. Tho Roomhead Estate -is to bo retained, upon trust to accumulate tho income fofr 21 years, or until (such accumulation amounts to £IOO,QOO. and then to follow tho tcslduo of his estate. Tho late colonel expressly mentioned tho countries in which th© trustees can bivtht tho money, and thesa include New Zealand.
