By the Dunedin Amateur Operatic Society. Mirth and melody, dancing and song, Costumes that ■ shimmer, and jewels that shine, Ladies and gallants—the raerrieat throng. And John Juppit Murphy a-selling his wine. Miss Jeffs's ballet was splendid!, the chorus was fine. And Madam R. Grothkop sang well to top C, And indeed her voice «as simply divine— For this is the ballade of “ Dorothy.” Percy James as the Sheriff came in for a win— He was right out for fun, and made the house roar. For nothing so “ took ” as his aeidy grin, And his jokes—well, we never had heard 'em before! Phil Barling as Bantam pttt up a big score, And Lydia got home with your bright Helen G., While Ford os the parson—but why say any more? For this is the ballade of “ Dorothy.” No raw hand at all is your Mrs H. V., And the Wilder of Gray was clever, I guess, While Phyllis appeared as coy m could be At the hands of your clever Miss B. Howie-S. And Tom Strutt Mulholland—l’m gad to confess Was very delightful—quite true, mon ami! And the Sherwood of Wright made me like him no less, For this is the ballade of “ Dorothy. L’ENVOI. Cast, chorus, ballet, conductor, and strings, Accept if you ploaso this short rhyme from me , In memory of just half a hundred moo things— „ , „ Far this is the ballade of Dorothy. —S. G. August.
