A good deal of business has been passing during the week in stock. One or two northern buyers have been down, and some are at present scouring the country on the look-out for store sheep of all classes. A good number have been purchased for immediate delivery, while other lines are to be held for Match delivery. Keen business has ako been done in store cattle for the Hast week or two, large lines having been purchased by Glut ha and Taieri buyers for removal there. The inquiry for store iambs far forward delivery has been very limited, and nothing much has boon done, although I understand that one or two lines of really good sorts have changed hands at up to lls. Butchers have still good supplies of fat .cattle on hand, and did not rush to the Wullacotown sale last Tuesday. The yarding at this sale was very small, and nothing very prime was forward. Prices may be quoted:—Fat cattle; Prime ox beef, 31s to 325; lighter, 29s to 30s; heifer beef, 27s to 28s; cow, down to 225. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, January 3. At Addington to-day there were moderate entries of stock and a fair attendance. Fat cattle were oa-sior, and there was a decided drop in price of fat lambs. Store sheep, which were mostly wethers, sold at an advance on late rates, and fat sheep showed little or no change. Fat pigs also sold better, and there was an improved demand for store cattle. Tho yarding of store sheep was a small one, and was made up chiefly of wethers, with a few line© of ewes and rape lambs. There woa an improved demand for wethers, and prices advanced fully Is to Is fid per head. The small offerings of owes and lambs sold about on a par with the previous sale’s rates. There was a good inquiry for rape lambs, and a larger supply ooufd have been z-eadily disposed of. Four and six-tooth wethers made 14s 3d to 15s lid, two-tobth wether© lls to 14s 9d, and small wethers 9a lid, rape lambs to 12s 6d, two-tooth ewes 15s 7d to 16s 2d, six and eight-tooths 14s 6d, and two and four-tooth ewes in the wool 17s 9d. The entry of fat lambs totalled 1604, or only half of the supply a fortnight ago. A considerable proportion of the lambs were unfinished, and ais there was little business done for export there was a decided drop in prices, and a number of tho

lighter lots were purchased by graziers. The decline in values was equal to Is 6d to 5s per head, the range being 12s fid to 15s lOd, and a few extra heavy 18s. Tho buhe of the sales were made at 13s 6d to 14s sd. There was a moderate yarding of fat sheep, about tw r o-thirds of which were wethers. There was a good demand on the. part of butchers, and wethers maintained late rates, whilst the lino sold, rather better. There was no business don© for export.’ Prim© wethers made 17s 6d to 23s 3d, lighter 12s Id to 17s, prime ewe® 15s fid to 19s fid, extra to 20s fid, others 9s lid to 15s, merino wethers 15s Id to 14s fid. There were 251 head of fat cattle penned, and included a good proportion of North Island cattle. The quality was generally good, but the demand was slack, and a dragging sale resulted in values being down about Is per 1001 b, the range being 24s to 27s per 1001 b. Steers made £7 17s 6d to £ls, heifers £5 17s 6d to £9 ss, and cows £5 5s to £lO 10s. Veal calves made 4s 6d to 635, according to size and condition, there being an average entry. A medium entry of store cattle of moderate quality met with an improved demand. Fifteen to 18 months sorts made 50s to 54s 6d, two-year steers £3 19s 6d, two and a-half year steers £5 ss, three-, year steers £6 2s fid to £6 7s fid, threeyear heifers £5, and dry cows 37s 6d to £3 17s 6d. Dairy cows made £3 10s to £9 ss, and extra to £lO 2s 6d. A small entry of fat pigs came forward, and prices, especially for porkers, showed an improvement. Choppers made 50s to 84s; largo baconers 60s to 725, and smaller 50s to 57s 6d (equal to s|d per lb), large porkers 42s 6d to 47s 6d, smaller 30s to 40a (equal to 6d per lb). A small entry of store pigs met with an easier demand, larger sorts making 26s to 29s 6d, medium 22a to 255, and weaners, which sold more readily, 10a to 17s.

CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. (Pkk Unitku I'-rkss Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 9. An inquiry is now setting in for new wheat in view of the fact, that the harvest will bo late, the warm weather for ripening the crops not having yet sot in. New oats are not yet on the market, though some rubbed-out samples have been shown. Growers are asking 2s at country stations, and early sales are likely to command a higher rate than the bulk offerings, as the market is quite bare of stocks. No new barley has yet been offered. Growers are experiencing a difficulty in getting the stocks sufficiently dry for threshing, and grain that lias been cut any length of time is sure to show signs of the weather. The crop is reported to be a good one in tho principal barley districts. WHEAT AND FLOUR SUPPLIES. Prcjs Association —Bv Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 8.
