An effort is' to bo made to form a National Horticultural Society in Palmerston North. There has been some controversy of late as to who was the. first man to follow hi s fatheir to Parliament. Fit/,herbort, in 1884, vfl*s elected to represent the Hutt in p-Vsiß. of his father, who was elected to tl« Legislative Council, and was at tha time Speaker. Wo could also mention several other cases, long before cither Mr Sod don's or Mr Fisher’s time, notably Mr Douglas M’Lean, wiho replaced his father, Sir Donald M‘Le%n. for one of bho Hawke’s Bay seats.
