RANFURLY.

Dec-ember 18.—We are experiencing very f cold and stormy weather, more like, winter than summer. Last Friday vve had a good s shower of rain, some 40 points being re gistered. On Saturday morning- the mountains were covered with .a good coating of enow. Some warm weather is badly needed to bring the crops on and to allow the farmers to finish their shearing. Elections. —A good deal of interest was taken in the election, but it came as a ! surprise to a good many to see the old member, Mr Scott, go in on the first ballot. When the returns for this district were made known interest was centred in other . parts, and the residents appreciate the courtesy extended, to them by the local station staff in waiting at the office and making known the results of the elections, j Sale of Work. —The Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild held a most successful sale on clec- | tion day. There were several stalls, competitions, and tea and cakes, which were all '• well patronised during the afternoon and ; evening- The ladies one and all worked j hard, and were rewarded by taking the sum of £2.4 for their day’s work. I A and P. Show. —The show was held on Wednesday, the 13th inst. The day was anything but fine, a cold north-west ■ wind blowing. Nevertheless a satisfactory j crowd turned out. The entries were not op to previous years, and the judges would have preferred their tasks to have beeji much harder. Mr M‘Leod won the president’s championship prize, and he is to bo complimented, as he has been a constant exhibitor at this show for several years. !In the fat sheep guessing: competition Miss Kearney and Messrs Blakely and Weir tied for honours) hut the gentlemen allowed the prize to go to the lady. Mk A. Dyke had on view concrete hollow bricks and pipes. These bricks are more substantial and of a better finish than the sun-dried brick, the coat being very lijltlo more. As Mr ha® iust imported this

plant from America, we wish him ©verf success in his new enterprise. School Concert. —The concert was hel({ on show night, which, being lino, the hall was packed, and several years have elapsed since we have seen such a crowded houses Th© takings were about £22 10s. Th< teachers (Miss Barth and Mr Fawcett) de-' serve great credit for the able and efficient manner in which they had th© children trained. Th© various items singing, marching, recitations, dialogues, hoop and sash, drill —met with well-merited applause. Songs were also given by Miss Barth, Mrs Gorrie, Jno. Millar, T. Finder, and two plantation songs and chorus by the Minstrel Troupe. After supper dancing was commenced, Messrs Finder and M‘Lcan supplying the music in an efficient manner. Accidents.—While returning from the show Mr A. Inder and party and Mrs Blakely and child had the misfortune to be thrown from their buggies. While Mr Inder was passing another cart the wheel of his bugg.V came in contact with the side of the watertable, and he was thrown out. The horse then took fright, and eventually the other occupants were thrown out, Mts Inder, Miss Murray, and Mr Incler’s two sons were much bruised and shaken, but were able to return home in a motor oar to Naseby. Cricket. —The local team met Patearoa on Saturday, and beat them by about 39 1 runs. The day was very stormy, and good cricket was out of the question. It would be advisable for the local team to provide a, shelter for the scorers, as they must bo well-nigh perished sitting on fdrms without a break-wind. Greeting.—l extend to the editor and Witness staff hearty greetings for Christmas and New Tear.
