SUPPOSED MESSAGE FROM THE YONGALA. BRISBANE, December 13 % A' bottle was picked up near Mac Kay containing a note from the lost Yongala, which reads as follows : —"Terrible storm, 8.30 p.m. It's a case of good-bye.— (Signed) J. West, C Cook." West was chief cook of the Yongala, and it is supposed the letter C stands for chief. SYDNEY, December 14.
The officials regard the Yongala bottle incident as a hoax. The writing will be compared with the chief cook's signature to the ship's articles.
A STEAMER ASHORE. LONDON, December 13. The Peninsular Company's steamei Delhi is ashore near Cape Spartel. The Duke Duchess of Fife and their daughters are .aboard.
STEAMER WRECKED. SYDNEY, December 17,
The steamer Brooklyn, when entering Crookhaven Heads, ran on a reef. A large hole was rent in the vessel's bottom on a rock which projected. She filled with water in a"few minutes. The orew were rescued 10 hours later. There is a hope of saving a portion of the cargo, which consisted chiefly of Christmas goods.
. THE MARGIT SOLD. ADELAIDE, December 16. * The wrecked barque Margit was sold as she 6tands for £154. Her cargo of 24,000 bags of wheat was sold separately. It brought £57.
