NE TEMERE DECREE

SYDNEY, October 21

The heads of the Evangelical Churches have issued a manifesto to Protestants condemning the Ne Temere Decree. It state* that the decree is an unwarrantable intrusion into the sphere of the State, and inimical to the domestic peace and moral welfare of the community. October 22.

Babbi .Cohen preached on the Ne Temere decree. He warned Jewish people that if one was married to a Catholic he risked the loss of marriage rights. The Jewish religion is strict with regard to mixed marriages, but it is acknowledged that the law of the land is. the law for them. .

WANGANUI PROTEST. WANGANUI, October 23.

The Wanganui Council of Churches tonight passed a resolution as follows, protesting against the introduction of the ne temere decree into New Zealand :—(1) It would be a dangerous precedent to allow one section of the Christian Church to interfere with the marriage law of the Dominion. (2) It would imperil the happiness of many homes in which there are mixed marriages. (3) It would promote denominational interests in opposition to the. well-being of the Dominion, and tend to widen the breach between the divisions of the Christian Church.
