VANCOUVER MAIL SERVICE

SYDNEY, October 16. The proposal of a mail subsidy to the Union S.S. Company since the contract was closed with the New Zealand Government has been revived, with a view to arranging for an improved Australian service. The new proposal is that the Commonwealth should pay the .gpmpany between £20,000 and £30,000 a year, with £IO,OOO additional for steamers to call alternately at Brisbane and Melbourne on their return. The company is prepared to provide an improved and more expeditious service.
