MELBOURNE MURDER CHARGE
MELBOURNE, September 20. The manager of Dr Peacock's form gave evidence this morning. He stated" that after, .Miss Davies disappeared Peacock made a big fire on hie farm. Dr Peacock was committed for trial on the charge of murdering Miss Davies. Bail was refused. September 22. Mr Smart, publisher of the newspaper Herald, was fined £2OO, and Mr Davidson, editor, was fined £IOO and three days' imprisonment for alleged contempt in publishing articles in connection with the Peacock case. ALr Davidson's sentence was suspended upon his entering into a bond of £lO for good behaviour. September 25. Special leave has been granted to the Age to appeal against the imposition of a fine of £2OO and taxed costs on the publisher of the paper on a charge of contempt of cou<rt in connection with the Peacock murder case.
