THE NEW HEBRIDES
SYDNEY, January 24. The French member of the • New Hebrides Condominium Court denies that the increased sale of liquor is due to laxity or favouritism on his part. The sale of alcohol and weapons to natives would cease only when the Joint Court had the means of visiting all the islands with facility. He hoped the French and British Governments would come to an arrangement to sunply the court with a special vessel to make frequent circuits. Judge Roseby, the English Condominium Judge in the New Hebrides, who is visiting Sydney, states that the court is not yet in thorough working order. The judges have been engaged in compilinig rules. The procedure just completed will be a contribution of importance in the domain of comparative law. Owing to his judicial position, Judge Roseby is unable to say anything regarding the recent statements by missionaries.
