SOUTHLAND v. CANTERBURY. INVERCARGILL, September 14
The representative hockey match, Southland v. Canterbury, resulted to-day in a win for the visitors by 5 goals to 4. Canterbury showed very clever stick work, and were a heavier and, on the whole, faster team than the local players, though their combination was not so good. Within a quarter of an hour of the call of time the score stood at 4 goals to 2 in favour of Southland, but the Canterbury forwards wore down the opposing defence, and rattled up 3 goals in a most dashing rna.nner. The game was extremely fast, though the ground was somewhat heavy after the recent rain. The victory was an exceedingly creditable one, as Southland have never been seen to better advantage during the present season.
