LAND TAX ASSESSMENT

MELBOURNE. September 14.

In the Federal House of Representatives tht land tax debate was resumed to-day. Mr West said that if the Labour party got the land thrown open it would at once take steps to introduce a system of immigration. Mr Fuller challenged Mr Fisher's statement that the graduated tax had made more land available in New Zealand. He said (hat ths proposed tax was a step in the direction of nationalisation. SYDNEY, September 15.

A representative meeting of business men appointed a committee to protest to the Federal Government against the Land Tax Bill, which was described as " chaotic, and malevolently designed against landholders." Mr Kelly argued that the tax would drive £300,000,000 of British capital from the country and stir up hatred of the worst kind.
