THE DAVIS CUP. LONDON, May 25. America will probably be unable to send a Davis Cup team to compete against England in July. INTER-STATK MATCH. SYDNEY, May 29. New South Wales defeated Victoria. The scores were: Thirteen rubbers, 27 sets and 246 games, to 8 rubbers, 20 sets, and- 222 games. The play was consistently good. Brookes and Heath were especially brilliant, and won all their rubbers in the Singles. Parker lost to Brookes, the former scoring 2—6, 3—6, and the latter 4—6, I—6. In the Doubles Parker and Rice lest to Brookes and Heath, 2 —6, 3—6. Sayers and Marsh also went down before them, 11—13, 4—6, also Wright and Jones, 4—6, 2 —6. MARS-BUCKLEY CUP. SYDNEY, May 24. New South Wales will be represented in the Mars-Buckley Cup contests by H. Rice, H. A. Parker, Jones, and Wright. The Victorian representatives will be N. E. Brookes, Heath (champion of Australasia), Murphy, and Wood. SYDNEY, May 25. The fifth contest for the Mars-Buckley Cup was commenced to-day. As the result of the day's play New South Wales has won five rubbers and Victoria two. Heath beat Parker 7—5, 6 —3, but Parker after a brilliant and exciting match, beat Brookes 6—4, 3—6, 7—5. The last game stood at 40 —30 in favour of Parker, who then picked up a cunningly short-played return from Brookes and lifted it on to the top of the net, whence it fell into the Victorian's .court hopelessly out of his SYDNEY, May 26. The results of the tennis matches played to-day gives New South Wales such a lead that the remaining games cannot affect the result, and New South Wales holds the Mars-Buckley Cup fo_' another year.

The star event was the meeting of Brookes and Heath (Victoria) and Parker

and his partner. After a stubborn contest the Victorians won, 6 —4, 6 —l, 6 —4.
