THE NICARAGUAN REVOLT

NEW YORK, May 24. A telegram says that the Nicaraguan gunboat Venus sank the revolutionary Omottope, and that 100 rebels were drowned. Despite the warning of the United States, fighting at Bluefields is probable. The British cruiser Scylla has sailed for Bluefields. The sinking of the Omottope is denied. May 27. The United States naval officers on the Nicaraguan coast have been instructed to protect American vessels and. to land forces if necessary to protect American property. A State department official remarked that " Gilmer can fire first and explain afterwards." LONDON, May 25. The Nicaraguam forces, under General Lara, are fiercely attacking the Provisional Government's army, under General Tarada, which is entrenched, behind Bluefields. The cruiser Venus is landing 500 troops northwards of Bluefields to reinforce General Lara. Fighting has been forbidden within the city.
