MOISTURE IN BUTTER.

LONDON, April 28. Oetzes and Gerritsen, produce merchants, of Tooley street, were fined 40s and a guinea costs for importing from Adelaide, per s.s. Mantua, butter containing 18.3 per cent, of water. Counsel stated that it was not possible for the Customs to prosecute ; therefore the importers were made* liable. The defence attributed the excessive moisture to the severe heat early in November, and to the necessary use of ice.
