Pahiatua, a Prosperous North Island Dairy=farming Centre.
Eapid as has been the growth of many of the inland towns of the North Island, one can hardly conceive that Pahiatua thirty years ago was called the Forty-mile Bush, an unknown district covered with native bush. To-day it has a prosperous population of over 1400 residents, handsomely laid'-out streets, an area of 720 acres, and an improved rateable value of £97,500. To the vigour with which dairy farming is carried on in the district, its prosperity is mainly due In the main street, which is three chains wide, is a beautiful reserve, planted with English foliage trees, forming an idsal resort for both resident and visitor.
