FIRE IN ESK. STHEET, INVERCARGILL.

The building destroyed was an old landmark, having been erected on the corner of Kelvin and EBk streets in 1862 as a bond and wholesale warehouse for Dalgety, Battray and Co. Since those goldfields days it has had many tenants, and when destroyed was occupied by Messrs J. E. Watson and Co., J. Gillies, and J. B. Moir. Though -very plain and-unattractive, the outside walls being of corrugated iron, it cost originally ,42500. The building on the right is the Southland Times Office. W ■" • ■-'. «■ ■' ■ " -
