DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery was held in First Church Hall," on the 2nd. There was a. large attendance of members, and the Moderator (the'Rev. D. K. Fisher) presided. EEV. MB CHISHOLM'S BETIREMENT. The Rev. Mr Borrie reported that, he had held a meeting of the Roslyn congregation at Roslyn in re the matter of the Rev.. Mr Chisholm's resignation, when the follow- i ing resolution was unanimously adopted:—■ " That this congregation receives with deep regret the intimation of the resignation of S our beloved minister, the Rev. James Chis- j holm, on account of hie age, though in the | circumstances we fully acquiesce in the do- ; cision he has come to. At the same time, we desire to express to Mr Chisholm our deep esteem for him, both as a man and a minister of the Gospel, and our deep sympathy with him and with his family in the present circumstances. We also' wish to express our appreciation of Mr Chisholm's work during the 40 years of his ministry, and more especially of his work as our minister in Roslyn for the last nine years. Mr Chi6holm was the first minister of this charge, and from a small beginning has built up a good congregation; while under him the congregation hae erected a. church, Sabbath school, and manse worthy of the district, and second to none in the suburbs. We think very highly of Mr Chishplm as an earnest preacher of the Gospel and an able expounder of the Word; as a faithful and diligent pastor and sincere friend. In going out and in amongst us he has endeared himself to old and young, and he has done much to commend the Gospel and a Christian life to all who knew him. He has also taken a deep and practical interest in all the schemes of our church, and in whatever concerns the welfare of the community. We shall part with Mr Chisholm as out minister with deep regret, and pray that God's richest blessing may rest upon him and his family in his retirement in the evening of life." The Rev. Mr Borrie said that all that now remained to be done was to appoint a small committee to draw up a minute worthy of the occasion. He spoke of his long association with Mr Chisholm. He had watched with keen interest Mr Chisholm's oareer, and he regarded him as one

of the best preachers—a model preacher—they had. He was a man who was always willing to take part- in any work of the Church', and to sacrifice himself if necessary. He , moved —"That the Presbyteryaccept the Rev. Mr Chisholm's resignation, and declare the charge vacant as from April 1." . The Rev. Dt Nicolfion seconded the motion, which was carried. ' ■ ' ■ ■ A sub-committee was appointed to draw up the suggested minute, and the Rev. Mr Borne was appointed Moderator in connection with the Roslyn vacancy. A MANSE AND A HOSTEL. The Rev. Mr Borrie reported on the proposal to. sell the theological professor's manse. - He proposed that they ask the authority, of the Synod to sell the manse to tha Hostel.. Committee as a residence for young women. studying in Dunedin under the Deaconesses'.Presbyterian Training Institute—the price to be fixed by arbitration. It was suggested that the money thus obtained be. spent in the erection of a new manse on the college grounds or. on the grounds they' hoped to get alongside the present property. The present house was in good repair and the site was a valuable •one. He moved •• accordingly. - Mr Fitzgerald, as convener of the Hostel Committee, entirely approved of the suggestion. ....-.- . The motion was carried.
