: MELBOURNE, March 23. • The Victoria Racing Cl'uh. have increased ; the Melbourne Cup Stakes to £6OOO for the- first, horse. £I2OO for the second, and £6OO for the third. The Newmarket Handicap has been increased to £ISOO, and the V.R.C. Dei'by to -33000 for the- first horse. £6OO for the second, and £3OO for the third. The Grand National Hurdles has been increased to £ISOO. Other increases have been sanctioned, the whole totalling £5475.
