THE GOVERNOR'S TOUP.
RAPIER, March 2. His Excellency the Governor arrived by mail train to-night on a farewell visit, and was -welcomed at the station by the Mayor and other prominent citizens. A guard of honour, consisting of the local Volunteers, conducted his Exee-llency to the Hawke's Bay Club, the battalion Band playing in advance. NAPIER.. March 5. Perfect weather reigned for the ceremonies incidental to Napier's farewell to' Lord Phmket. At 11 o'clock his Excellency formally opened the children's ward at the "hospital built by Mr W. Shrimpton, chairman of the- Hospital Board, a,s a memorial to his son. Lord Plunket warmly applauded the donor's public-spirited action, and declared the ward open. At noon the formal farewell ceremony. took place on the Marine parade, in the presence of a great concourse of people. An address was presented to his Excel--iency and appreciative speeches were delivered.
Lord Plunket, who was the guest of the Mayor at luncheon, left at 3 o'clock by motor for Hastings.
VISIT TO THE SOUTH. WELLINGTON, March 4. The Governor proposes to visit the Waitaki electorates this month. He will arrive at Waimate at 12.7 p.m. on the 26th, leave at 8.35 a.m. on the 28th, arrive at Pukeuri at 10.35, leave by special train about 10.45 a.m., arrive at Kurow about 12.30 p.m., and leave about 1.45 p.m. by special for Oainaru. On the 29th his Excellency will visit Ngatara in the evening and stay at Elderslie.
The Mayor of Port Chalmers (Mr D. A. De Maus) has received a wire from the private secretary to Lord Plunket that his Excellency will pay a fareweil visit to the Port on the 30th inst., and will then inspect the new dock.
