j CHRISTCHURCH, January 19. 1 Several bores are being sunk on the Homebush Estate at Glenturmel in coni nection with the proposal to test for coal j deposits there. Some of the bores have ! gone to a depth of 500 ft, and have pierced seams from 4ft 6in to 7ft. in thickness in one place. Arrangements have been made to put in long drive. Although of a bituminous character, the j i-adius of the coal has not yet been definitely decided. Some of the experiments show that the coal in the best of the seam is likely to be a good gas \ producer.
