I IKi: AT IV.4PIER. MAN BURNED TO DEATH. NAPIER, October 21. Another fatal fire occurred early tins morning, the victim being Thomas tver, a single man. agsd about 30. Ths fire oc cuiied at Westcourt, a large boardinghouse, formerly kno\rn as the Occidental Hotel, which lost its license when reduc- : tion was carried nine years ago. Ths flames had obtained a 6trong hold when I discovered. The proprietor of the housa | (Mr Richard_-on) went round and roused ' the whole of the inmates, and it, was [ thought that nil had escaped. When the i fir-e was got under, however, Ker's body was found on tbe floor of his bedroom, he apparently having been overcome by smoke. The deceased was well known in rowinij circles, and was a native of Christelmrch. Tbe building was owned by Mr V. Gleeson, and an?ured in the Norwich Union for £1200, and fche contents tor £760 in the Australian AlHance. The upper storey of the building wa_ gutted. October 22. !
