SNOW IN CENTRAL OTAGO. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
ALEXANDRA, October 23V After enjoying mild weather for. several weeks we experienced a marked cnange last week, and the beginning of this week saw a couple of nights of severe frosts.. Yesterday again the weather again became boisterous, and throughout last night a cold howling southerly gale raged, accompanied by showiers. This morning leveal-sd v heavy coating of snow on the high country, apparently as heavy as any, snowfall experionced dining the winter months^ The Old Man ranges axe white, and snow is low down! It ha 6 been raining all morning, and a cold southerly' wind is etill blowing, snowing no sign of ckaiing off. * Together with the frosts in. the eaily part of the week, .the cold snap will have a telling effect on iruit orchards, in many of which the apricot crops are practically ruined. Snow is still falling on the high country, with no appearance of a change. One good effect of the rain will be that several sluicing claims which are already short of water will be able to prolong operations.
