HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

The monthly meeting of the Hospital Trustees, held on the 16th inst., was attended by Messrs S. Solomon (chairman) A. E. Tapper, J. Mill, J. M'Donald, j' London, J. M. Gallaway, J. Brown, and Dr Batchelor.

BEPORTS.

The Finance Committee recommended that application be made to the Hospital Board for £833 6s Bd, maintenance for May, and reported that the subsidy of £1227 15s 6d had been received from the Paymaster-general, and that £2000 of the building fund had been deposited with the Dunedin Gity Council for six months at 4 per cent, per annum. The committee recommended that the usual donation of £15 bo made to the St. John Ambulance A&sociation. — Adopted. The Matron reported the appointment of Bessie Ferguson, Mabel Gray, and Grace Thomson a-s probationers, and that the names of Misses Knowles. Young, Douglas, and Withey had been placed on the list of probationers seeking employment. Probationer Sparrow had resigned. Nurse Diack's resignation had been received. Nurse Goodson, who went to the Fever Hospital on May 28, had contracted scarlet fever. The. Hospital Board had requisitioned for more nurses for the Fever Hospital, and, although the matron had pointed oufc that two of the nurses sent had contracted fever, and that a third had been sent down, it was arranged that still another be sent. The matron hod pointed out that this could be done only with difficulty. Nurses Wilson, Herdman, and Guffie were candidates for the nurses' final State examination.

The Chairman, in regard to the clause of tho report dealing with nurses for the Fever Hospital, said that a suggestion had been put forward to the effect that the Hospital Board should have some staff of its own. The chairman of the Hospital Board, in response to an invitation, had been present at the meeting of the .Hospital Committee, and had expressed himself as being; in accordance with the views put forward. The report was adopted. CORRESPONDENCE.

W. J. Hastie wrote complaining that the friends of the late Elizabeth Todd were not sent for to see deceased before her death. — The Chairman said the committee had in its possession reports and documents which showed that everything was done that could be donp. It had, however, been dcided that in order to leave no stone unturned, the writer of the letter should be asked to meet the trustees.

The Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote forwarding a letter from Dr E. D. Mackellar re instructing nurses in pbarmacv.— lt was decided that, in the face of advice given by the resident medical officer and matron, the trustees could not support the proposal.

TENDERS.

The following tenders were accepted : — J. E. White, for out-natients' department £2496 10s; Alex Gillies, for kal?omining out-patients' department £4 14s 4d.
