Monday Evening. Last Monday evening Dr Truoy King gave a. most interesting lecture in the Btirns Hall, .which was very largely attended by v/omenfolk. During the we^ek social functions have bee.i of a very small kind, such as a few bridge parties. Nothing else has taken place. The dog and poultry show was held on Thursday, Friday, and Saiuiday of last week, and is reported to have been one of the best yet held in this city. Lafct Wednesday two motor cars left for Timaru filled with guests to be present at a large ball given by Mrs A. Elworthy on Thursday night. An>ongst tko*e who went were Mrs Lindo Ferguson, Mrs Stanley Eatchebr, Miss Batchelor, Misses Tower, Miss Denniston, etc. Miss Xisbet left last week fcr Wellington to vis:', friends. Miss Gladys Williams has gone for a trip to Australia. Mrs Joachim is visiting L?dy Miller in Cainaiu. Sir Jerries i:!!= returned iron the north last week. Mr and "Ur* J. F. M. Fraspr left on Sunday by the Moans f^r Melbourne. Mrs Fer^iisoa Mrs Siitiley Batchelor, and the Misses Tower. Eatchelor, and Denniston all returned t? town en Friday.
