In addition to writing off £72 15s, expended in maintenance end improvements, a further sum of £23 has been written off furniture account, which reduces that asset to JBIOO. It may be noted that th© amounts written off this account since the opening of the present premises in March, 189S, tcral £630 15a. | Mortuary Benefit Fund.— This year the ( sum <A £317 2s has been credited tc^tbe fund j from members' subscriptions, £150 from aaso- I eiatkm's profits, and £104 16s from interest account, which bring the capital account to , £2457 15s, with £210 10s to credit of dividend • account to provide for claims during the , ensuing year. The fund; wa3 established in October, 1902, with a capital of £500, contributed by the association. Thia ■ record has exceeded the-mest sanguine anti- ' cipations. and certainly affords grounds for jsincere feelings of gratification. During last | y«r Hiree deaths occurred in the ranks- of . the membership. The dividends paid ; amounted to £116 16s Bd, -which fortunately j fell vrilhin the amount available for divi- j dends »t commencement of last year, thus H permitting a> transfer to dividend reserve account of £67 2a 4d. The amount ai credit of dividend account at close of the year (£2lO 10s) has enabled your committee to 'fix the amount of the maximum dividend for ensuing year at £45. Club Account. — The business of the club has proceeded very satisfactorily throughout the year. The account, after being charged with the outlay for ' maintenance of the association's property, has contributed £78 19s 4d to interest account, and in addition has handed to association account £23 19a. Members are awa» that your committee decided to strictly conform to the regulations of the recent Licensing Act — not only in the letter, but in the spirit. It is . gratifying to know that, notwithstanding the somewhat restrictive nature of the regulations, members have cheerfully submitted to the n«w order of things, and no trouble of aaiy sort has been experienced during the year. j Your committee again desires to -place on I record its entire satisfaction with the manner J in whicH the business of the clnb is attended to by the manager and his assistants. Accident Insurance. — The committee again ' desires to call attention to the liberal acci- i dent assurance policy. Fot th& sum of i £1 Is per annum a member can secure cover j as follows: — £230, death by accident; £250, ' permanent total disablement ; £125, perma- i ment partial disablement; £3 per week for 26 weeks, illness through, accident; £2 per ' week for 26 weeks, illness- through epidemic, covering typhoid, typhus, or scarlet fever, smallpox, diptheria, measles, appendicitis, ' Asiatic cholera, bubonic plague, carbuncle, j diabetes, erysipelas, meningitis (brain fever), > peritonitis, pleurisy, pneumonia, tetanus. This i privilege applies to association and club | members. A considerable number of members have taken advantage of the liberal pro- ; visions of this policy, but there are still a { large number who have not insured. Your committee has no hesitation in strongly urging those members to take out policies without delay. United C.T.A. of Australasia.— The thirteenth annual conference was held in Bris- > bine at Easter La^t. and was attended! by , delegates from all the affiliated a?soc ; «tions. j This association was represented by f»lessrs D. M'Pherson and C. S. Owen, -who, -with their brother delegates, received Ih<» pr^ste^t kindness and hospitality from their Queensland brethren. Many matters of importance <o the affiliated associations were discussed and dealt with to the benefit of all i concerned, and in every respect the confer- j enc-e was an eroeediug-Jy successful one. Onft i matter of importance to this association was disctissedi at great length — viz^ the United Association's position in New Zealand; s.nd as a direct outcome of the »lis- ; <msf>ion a conference was held in Welling- j ton in -July last, and attended by two delegates from each of the three associations — viz., Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin. Dunedin's lepresentatives were Messrs C. S. ' Owen and James Brown. At the conferenc« [ the following resolution was carried: — "That"j in the •opinion of tlve delegates the time i lias now arrived when it is n-ece^ery to ! form a United Comip«rcial Travellers and Warehousemen's Aaeociation of New Zea'and, i and ihut the conference cordially requests the Dunedin delegates to convey to the ; r association tli-e strong feeling which exists at this> meeting that it is in the b"°t in- ' tcrest of the associations in New Zealand that this federation should be formed, ard this conference cordially invites the Dunediri Association to join v/ith it for that purpose." At the annual meeting the course of future acti&n must be determined upon, therefore the committee trusts that members will give the question at issue that earnest

and thoughtful consideration to which its vital importance entitles * it.
