CROMWELL CATHOLIC SCHOOL.

The annual concert in connection with the Cromwell Catholic School took place in the Athonseum Hall, which was filled, on Wednesday, 9th in^t., and, as usual, was a thorough 'success, financially and otherwise, and amply demonstrated the skill and patience exhibited by the sisters in their training of the pupils, musically and vocally. The piano duets by the Mi?ses Amy and Annie Thomas. Ivy "Mitchell and Cissy Thomas, and Martha Mitchell and Kathleen Thomas were exceptionally well rendered, especially by the last-named two young ladies, who have attained high degree of proficiency on. the instrument. A

pianofprte -eolo (Jj Cqme back to Erin ") by Master Alfred comes under the same category, and he "did ample credit to his careful tuition, and promises to become a musician of repute. "' Darby and Joan" caused no end of merriment by the thorough manner in which their respective -roles were filled by two little tots — Gecrgo Scoles and Kitty M'Nulty, — and which really would have done credit to .youngsters of a more mature age. Bell drill by a class of lads was gone through faultlessly, and displayed the careful training in calisthenics which they had. undergone. V A humorous recitation, " How Uncle Rodger hung a picture," by Master Vincent M'Nulty, fairly brought down the house, and was followed by an operetta, " Queen Mab," the principal role being filled by Miss Evelyn Scott, who acquitted herself remarkably well considering her extreme - youth. Marie M'Xaren also went through her part with grace and wonderful aplomb. AH the girls were letter perfect. The- gem of the evening was a ballet entitled " A visit to Spain." It was a spectacular treat, and the perfect waltz time kept by the girls was a credit to their careful training. Miss Maggie Cahill acted as accompanist in- her usual' artistic manner. A farco, "He Would: be a Soldier," followed. Among the lads who distinguished themselves were Masters Alfred Neill, Vincent M'Nulty. and William Mitchell, the former particularly so.Alt the-; lads who formed ftifo <dramatis, personal-* were letter' perfect"' &nd -went through their respective parte with a vim, winch elicited well-merited applause. " God saYe' New Zealand," by the full strength-^of • those who had • taken paTt in the concert was sung as a finale.' During" the " interval . Father Hunt - suitably returned thanks to all * present for -their patronage. The proceeds of the concert wiTi amount to over £25.
