I Messrs Ward, Lock, and Co. have issued two of the handsomest and best books suitable for Christmas presents for the little people which, have come un-der our notice this year. "The Wonder Book oS Animals for Boys and Girls," edited byBarry Golding (Messrs R. J. Stark and Co., Princes' street), is made up of over a hundred short 'articles, sketches, stories, fairy tales, and verses about almost every\ description of animal of which a pet can be made, and of others not suitable for pets, together with over 200 coloured plates. Ore the cover of a handsomely-bound volume i» a beautifully-drawn head of a dog, charmingly coloured. The reading matter is delightfully fresh and crisp. AH children take the" keenest delight in reading stories of birds and beasts, and in "The Wonder Book of Animals" they will find a store of informatior whiich thsy will absorb unconsciously. Here we have articles our the lion, tiger, bear, giraffe, hippopotamus, cats, dogs, ponies, donkeys, horses, and birds of all kinds. As for the illustrations, they range "from grave to pay," and even»highly comic. - ' "The Wonder Book" is a picture annuaD for boys and girls, published by Messrs Ward, Lock, and Co. (Messrs R. J. Stark and Co., Dunedin). It is intended for th*» little dots, though for that matter thoss, a little older will find much to delight and-int-erest. There are 12 beautifulls'-coloured plates and innumerable other pictures, many of them highly amusing. Shorb stories, nonsense, and other verses, fairyi tales, nursery rhyme's, and sketches constitute the reading matter. More delightful or more suitable presents for little fohc could not be imagined than Messrs Ward, Lock, and Co.'s publications.
